I wanted to create a new static website.

Over the years I have appreciated the flexibility of WordPress. However the dynamic part of WordPress seems to mostly be utilised by site owners as an online web editor for quick edits.

Personally I had become tired of the endless WordPress updates, tired of maintaining and transferring different databases over and tired of the plugin vulnerability. At the same time I had heard others hosting their blogs on Github and Cloudflare Pages for free.

The first decision I had to make, is which Static Framework I wanted to use.

There are quite a lot of options to choose from. I found Myles Braithwaite had compiled an extensive list of Static Site Technology and posted it on Github Awesome Static Web Site Generators. I was specifically after a Static Framework.

Jamstack had also created a list of Site Generators that is interactive with filters.

So now I needed to compare a few of my top choices.

I was interested in writing content pages in Markdown and I had previously played with a Ghost blog when it debuted in 2013.
